Bed Turnover Rate Report
Bed Turnover Rate is the rate at which beds are made available for a given project. While typically used in hospital settings, Bed Turnover Rate can also be used by providers and agencies to evaluate the speed and efficiency with which clients receive services.
Bed Turnover Rate is calculated as the number of exits divided by the bed inventory, then multiplied by 100 to be expressed as a percentage. The number of exits is calculated as the number of clients who have an exit date, and for housing projects, who also have a valid housing-move-in date. Bed inventory is calculated as the total number of beds in a project multiplied by the total number of days in the reporting period.
A higher turnover rate can indicate that beds, and by extension services, are being used efficiently. The types of services provided can also influence turnover rate. For example, a Permanent Supportive Housing project will likely have a lower turnover rate than an Emergency Shelter.
This report can be run by all project types except for Night-by-Night projects.
